Had great find at the thrift store today. Sitting on a the shelf was a stack of vintage cooking and wine booklets from the 40′s to the 70′s. Here are the two best wine ones. The first one, “Wine is Fun”, is from 1943. The second, “How smart are you about wine?”, is from 1945. Both are lithographs. Both are totally hilarious. Take a close look at the pics below.
My friends Sacha and Jason who are designers and also have an amazing wine blog (Swirl Smell Slurp) are going to inherit these two. They are calling their names.
Last year we hung oversized ornaments, this year Moritz handmade over 50 poinsettia flowers and decorated the trees infront of our houses. By far my favorite neighborhood decorations. Nice to do something different from lights and these almost blend in if you don’t know poinsettias never grow on cherimoya trees. Thanks Moritz!
There’s a big empty spot up on a hill in the back of the studio area. The past week I’ve watched Jurgen put together (all by himself I must add) a big Buckminster Fuller type dome. Usually he takes it to Burningman but since he’s unable to go this year he constructed it for the pure enjoyment of anyone that may pass by. It has windows, an escape hatch, running water and (gasp) a bar!
I’ve been listening to the VLA for eight years now. I’m somewhat obligated seeing as I’m married to it but nevertheless, it was love at first sight and still is. Last night they rocked it. Spaceland didn’t f* up the sound either so that made me super happy. Ravi and I went to see Death Cab for Cutie the other day at the Hollywood Bowl. Since they’re sort of in the same vein I couldn’t help but compare them and, well, these guys are better. Jason’s voice is hotter and their songs are better. Fo sho. Listen here. (took the pics with a Nikon D40. great in low-light)
I’ve been noticing how on almost every holiday or day worth noting (like when he had a MJ memorial a few days ago), our neighbor down the street does an amazing job decorating. Way more interesting than your average neighborhood taste. Will keep you posted on the future ones.
I’ve still been on the lookout for trucks in my neighborhood. Can’t believe I found more! I’m definitely running out though. Will have to venture out further soon. That Datsun is pretty amazing. I believe they used to be called Datsuns before they became Nissans in the US.
